This mandate, issued in August, includes drugs that work after conception to destroy life rather than prevent it. The statement included a postponement of one year for religious groups that do not already carry contraceptives and additionally would not be exempted under last year’s narrow definition of “religious employer.”

AUSTIN, Texas, April 8 – Today, the Austin [...]

AUSTIN, Texas, April 8 – Today, the Austin City Council heard testimony and unanimously voted (7-0) to pass an ordinance specifically designed to attack pregnancy resource centers (PRCs). This ordinance is the first-of-its-kind in Texas, and requires only PRCs to post signs at their entrance that they do not provide or refer for abortions or birth control. There is no corresponding requirement that abortion facilities post signs about the services they do not provide.

This ordinance was being pushed by the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL). Such a law has already been passed in Baltimore, Maryland, but it is being challenged in court. Liberty Institute testified at today’s City Council meeting, and will work to defeat these attacks on charitable centers that are so valuable to women.

“This pro-abortion, political effort by the City Council and NARAL is an outrageous example of out of control government,” said Jonathan Saenz, director of legislative affairs at Liberty Institute. “Why is the City of Austin so hostile to the needs of pregnant women served by charitable pregnancy centers?”

"The Pence amendment, sponsored by Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., bans Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funds. The Republican-dominated House of Representatives approved the amendment 240-185 after a debate that featured Democratic Rep. Jackie Speier recounting the story of receiving an abortion due to a complication with a pregnancy.

The vote is something of a coup for Pence. As Politico said earlier this week, "Abortion-rights advocates and abortion-rights opponents don't see eye to eye on much, but they do agree on this: Nobody hates Planned Parenthood quite as much as Mike Pence."

"Springfield, IL (January 25, 2012) — Hundreds of news articles appeared this week claiming, once again, that the best medical evidence shows that abortion is safer than childbirth. The rash of articles were all tied to a blatant piece of propaganda published in Obstetrics and Gynecology by Dr. David Grimes, an abortion provider and chief propagandist for “medical proof” of abortion’s safety.

The new study repeats the same discredited practice of simply comparing nationally reported maternal mortality rates with Center for Disease Control (CDC) reported deaths associated with abortion. Sounds reasonable, until you learn that there is no accurate or formal mechanism for reporting abortion-related deaths. Indeed, the rules regarding completion of death certificates specifically exclude identifying abortion as a cause of death."

Today, a similar threat faces Christians in the US, across Europe, and much more dramatically throughout the Muslim world. Radical Islam's jihadist ideology does not peacefully coexist with Christianity. And Christian leaders-both political and pastoral-should know more about the threats they face.
